Tiger in the Grass Art Lesson
Heavyweight paper (with a texture works better)
Artist Chalks pastels
reference picture (we used this link on google)
Step 1 Create a background
using chalk pastels
Divide the sky from the ground with a horizontal line. (about a third of the way down)
Add mountains above the horizon
Fill in the sky using the side of your pastel and rubbing with your finger
Step 2 Create the foreground
using chalk pastels create your ground cover since we are doing a tiger its going to be orange.
Step 3 Draw your tiger
This is where we deviated from the book.
You could draw directly on the beautiful background you created.
We pulled up this image of how to draw a tiger and practiced for a bit.
Add patterns to the fur using oranges, yellows and finally the black
Step 5 Camouflage your tiger
Greens, browns and grays create tall grass that your tiger is stalking through. DO NOT add TOO much GRASS! You don't want to cover your tiger up TOO MUCH!
This project was inspired by this book.
Its been a wonderful reference for us! Highly recommended.
